With so many options available, it can be massively overwhelming to be forced to only choose one. And, it can be tempting to put off your decision for fear you’ll make the WRONG choice.
However, putting off decisions results in stress, anxiety, and frustration. It’s also a big waste of time.
That’s why it’s important to start developing your decision-making skills so you can be more efficient and confident in your choices. Not only will this benefit you, but it will also benefit employers.
Giving yourself a time limit to make decisions will help train you to make choices more quickly, which will save you time, frustration, and stress.
Today, give yourself decision deadlines. Whether you only allow yourself five minutes to make a decision or 30 seconds, force yourself to stay within your deadline.
For example, if you’re asked to choose where you should go to dinner tonight with a friend, instead of saying, “I don’t know, whatever!” Give yourself 30 seconds to think about it and make a decision.
What makes sense location-wise for both of you? What are you in the mood for? Are there any new places you want to try? You have 30 seconds to run through all of this in your head.
Giving yourself these decision deadlines will force you to think on your feet, go through the pros and cons faster, and come to a decision in a more timely fashion. It might be hard at first, but it will get easier the more you do it. You’re just building up your decision-making muscles!
